New Year, Better Me!

This time we write separately, Szilvi’s post is coming soon. I can’t wait to see.

Personally I like this part of the year. You close an era, learn from the consequences, appreciate the ups and downs and get ready for new challenges. When it`s done, you`ve learnt your lessons, you can plan ahead to make it better.

For a few days I want to meditate in a buddhist temple in Asia and to attend a few group sessions, too. On the fundamental level for me it is self-awareness, being grateful, being in the present and being more passionate about my life. Which I am, it is just easy to get distracted by everyday sh*t. So I want to get into meditation a bit deeper to make the most out of it.

The other thing is that, admittedly, I have to work on my self-confidence to make myself less care about how others want to see me. That`s their choice, it doesn`t matter what I do, they see what they want to see. I am who I am and I have to make peace with myself. Most of us are struggling with it and want to meet the expectations. Object: learn not to give a sh*t. Don`t worry, I`m very close.

I`m going to research and test at least 5 mental models (like the Pareto Principle), pick one or two to implement them in my life. I need to learn how to be more productive and save time. You know that I`m a bit of a time-freak. It always feels like I don`t have enough time to explore a place when travelling, to be effective when working or learning, to enjoy holidays wells, time goes by and I can`t keep up, etc. I need a good system with right mindset. That can be a game-changer.

On this note, I have to teach myself how to be a bit more money-conscious, success orientated. I strongly believe that if money is not in your highest priorities you have a better life. You don`t make decisions based only on money, you don`t let your dreams go only because of the money, you don`t sacrifice your life for that (mostly) fake security. Obviously the best is when you earn enough with something that you love. In my book, happiness is the measure of success not the fortune and the fame. Don`t forget, you`re trading time for money. That`s your time! Time of your life that you`re never going to get back! But since good money is a great tool, you need to make some. That`s what I lost, so I need to get it back in the picture and find the balance.

Therefore I want to make £10000 with something I like doing as a hobby. I know it`s not much, but first I have to brake the ice and then I can go to the next level.

At some point, I realized that I had to give up other people’s definition of success. This is one of the most difficult things to give up because it is so deeply embedded in our cultural narratives that it becomes the standard by which we measure our lives. Even as entrepreneurs we have collectively agreed that fame and fortune are the markers of success.

But, giving up other people’s definition of success is incredibly liberating and ultimately leads to the fullest expression of who you are and what matters to you. It’s not a one-time thing. It’s a daily habit of comparing less and creating more.

 I also have a few “smaller” goals like

  • At least 5 hours a week - working on my American accent just because I like it and it “sells” better

  • At least 5 hours a week - learning new skills (beyond what I have to),

  • Reading at least 5 books - targeted - only what I really need (effectiveness), quake books, that can be milestones in my personal growth

  • Get 500 readers on the blog, but more importantly I want to write more to keep myself on track, to process my life, to sharpen my English (and Hungarian), to learn how to write – please provide feedback, even negative ones to help me improve

  • Yoga twice a week – That`s a big one for me if you know how “flexible” I am (haha). It`s only for my long-term well-being

These are mainly internal things. But how else can you live a great life? By constantly getting new skills and being aligned with yourself, by being happy with yourself. Then you can attract external goodies.
